Where to Eat

The area around Daylesford is renowned for the fine quality of its food and wine, with many organic producers making their homes in the region, and there’s no lack of great places to eat.

This seasonal bounty translates into splendid fare at the hands of many talented local cooks, so you can expect to wine and dine very well. Fine dining can be had at our premier hotels, Deco at Peppers Springs Retreat and Spa in Hepburn Springs or Lake House in Daylesford, beautifully refurbished The Grande in Hepburn Springs or just out of town at Sault Restaurant, at Sailors Falls, home to the near-famous 'ChillOut Slowest Lunch.'

Or you can stock up on goodies at Daylesford IGA supermarket and have yourself a picnic at one of the many local beauty spots. Grab a chook from Daylesford Charcoal Chicken to round out your lakeside repast. Or dig into fish and chips from the Daylesford Seafood Bar.

Gourmet treats can be had at Cliffy’s Emporium and Gourmet Larder, combined delis / cafés, so it’s up to you whether you eat right there or take your goodies home for later. Wash it down with a locally made boutique drop from WINE is a 4 Letter Word, or try one of Captains Creek Organic Wines, or a special drop from Ellender Estate.

If you want to feel especially virtuous while you eat, then Harvest Organic Café will satisfy your inner greenie, while Debs Wholesome Food Café speaks for itself, and the Food Gallery, as the name suggests, turns eating into an art, with a Spanish twist. Or if Greek is more your style Dbar is just the place.

Later on you could grab a pub meal at the Savoia Hotel or the Farmers Arms - local favourites of many locals. If you want to entertain your outside as well as your insides, check out the Palais, home to many ChillOut events. Next door you’ll find the Red Star Café, serving great breakfasts right up till midday. Hearty pub grub is a specialty at the Old Hepburn Hotel, while Lucini’s at the Old Macaroni Factory is - naturally - a must for pasta lovers.  Also in Hepburn Springs is Central Springs Cosy Corner - one of the longstanding icons in the region recently re-invented with new owners and a new fab menu. 

Grab one of a range of local and imported beers at Beer & Breakfast (you don’t have it with breakfast), but if you’re a more of a night owl and wine is your thing, party in style with music food and wine at the Perfect Drop. If you prefer to dine in quieter surroundings, check out Frangos & Frangos for that cool laid-back atmosphere, or the warm and friendly Mercato @ Daylesford, another favourite with the locals.
