For lovers of the pre-loved, get your kitsch on at the Mill Markets and Daylesford Bazaar. The proprietors of these two hubs of vintage style have trawled every granny garage sale and hard rubbish collection this side of Woop-Woop West, so that you don’t have to. (Bless). Discover something with a story, and make it your own.
The crafty cats in our community are well catered for with a few stores around town who’ll even throw in a bit of creative inspiration for free. Threadneedle Craft has a huge range of craft supplies, in case you feel the need to bust out a few granny squares before the Dance Party. Lark, tucked away off the main street has more Facebook friends than you. Place one foot in the door of the cutest store around and you’ll see why. Lark’s eclectic range of homewares, unique gifts, delicious body products, clever crafty stuff, retro toys and paper goods is uber-fun and super-cute. Oh yes Lark, thumbs up! We likey! Sister George Productions just up the road from Lark, is an original creative space, boasting hand made everything… from original artworks, brilliant hand made hats and jackets, right down to the store fixtures, lead light windows and cloud painted ceiling! A haven for quality, Sister George invites you to exhale… ahhh that’s better, relax and take your time to browse.
If you’re thinking about having a picnic and a lazy afternoon in the sun (fingers crossed!) you’ll need a book! Paradise Bookshop in town has 14 rooms of page-turners, wordy wonders and spines just waiting to be broken. Explore paradise and find a book with your name on it, ripe for the reading. Next door you’ll find Alpaca Passion. Now without suggesting anything… if you want to be touched gently this weekend… Wear Alpaca. The luxe fibre from heaven, Alpaca wool begs to be stroked. (Don’t say you haven’t been warned). Run your fingers through a luxurious Alpaca throw while you’re there. Divine!
Whatever you do, don’t fill the car completely before you take the 2 minute drive to Hepburn to share the retail love at Portal 108. Portal is filled to the roof with contemporary homewares, silver jewellery, hats and local and independent designery stuff. Ensure you take time to respect the disco ball and bust out a few moves under the oak tree. (You’ll understand when you see it.)
After all that shopping, you‘re going to need to celebrate your purchases with something cold; and perhaps bubbly? Cellarbrations at Foxxy’s is a brilliant bottle shop, with a great range of local wines, ciders, unusual tipples and imported wines, beers and spirits, including some organic and preservative free products.
